The blogs to date have been information based, so instead we have decided to make this one a little more personal – a get to know the face behind the company type blog. We feel that it is important to be able to connect with the person behind the treatment, to realize that we are everyday people as well.

So, without further ado – my name is Dr. Stribbell. I was raised in Keswick, ON my entire life. My parents have been nothing but supportive through my entire childhood and adulthood and I definitely wouldn’t be who I am today without their support and love. I have one younger brother who has a successful career in landscaping.
At an early age, I knew I wanted to be a doctor and this set me onto the path that brought me to today. I was always driven to succeed in the healthcare field and that dream brought me in and out of this country on numerous occasions. I graduated from the University of Toronto, went to the US and returned to Canada to complete my residency in Barrie, ON at Royal Victoria Hospital.
During this time, I got married to my longtime boyfriend and we bought a house in the community. I immediately went to find a job back in my hometown. And fast forward to today – I have been practicing with the Woodbine Medical Centre x 7 years now and I would like to say that as much as healthcare has changed drastically (and I anticipate will continue to do so over the next couple of years), I have been able to build a nice practice with patients that I have connections with and continue to attempt to help on a daily basis.

My husband and I have been married for 7 years now – I’m lucky that he is supportive and attempts to help at whatever crazy idea I come up with in my professional and personal life. I have had three children – my eldest is 3.5 – he wears his heart on his sleeve and has an immense passion for all things animals/dinosaurs. He is always eager to learn something new and in typical toddler style, always keeps us on our toes. My second son is 2 – he beats to his own drum and when it comes to “baby proofing” the house – taught us very quickly that we hadn’t even come close. He loves to follow his big brother around annoyingly haha and he loves to climb EVERYTHING! He is commonly found standing on his head on the couch, but has the most infectious smile in spite of his naughty demeanor (clearly a trait from his father 😉). Our youngest is 7 months old and has given us the pleasure of watching our boys love. As soon as she cries, the boys both come running and I’m sure when she is older, she is going to rule the roost. She is a go-getter already and has traits from both the boys. My life outside of work is them and everyone is right when they say, they grow so fast and it’s easy to regret missed time with them when they are little.

The truth is I love medicine and I love helping people (I know that sounds corny). My struggle is that healthcare hasn’t turned into helping people or medicine much lately and more into navigating a very broken system that is questionably irreparable (I could go on about this for days, but not the point of this blog). This unfortunate truth is what brought me to Cutera – a medical laser company. After much research and a much needed change of pace, my partner and I decided to embark on a new adventure – the importance of skin care, the treatment of a variety of medical conditions which I see on a day to day basis and hopefully by doing the first two, building further confidence in patients. My intention was never to replace the medicine I love (and my hope is that eventually the system will be corrected or revamped), but in the meantime provide a new thrill to the stalemate that is family medicine right now. We are now approximately 5 months into this new venture and what an adventure it has been. I have learned so much by way of starting a business and looking back, I had no clue what that really meant when I stepped into this. I have met more wonderful people and the nice thing about this – is I have been able to help people much differently and feel good about doing so as I haven’t been met by resistance from a broken system.
I can honestly say that there are so many stressors when it comes to running a business and I never imagined just how many stressors would crop up that I hadn’t even thought of, but amongst all the stress, it has opened my eyes to the importance of people feeling good about themselves. It has opened my eyes to a need in the community that wasn’t previously there or maybe, wasn’t being effectively accessed and it has allowed me to build further relationships with my patients and with other members of the community. It has provided me with a bit of pep back in my step and I truly enjoy having this avenue to continue to treat patients. The satisfaction one gets post treatment is worth every single stressor. I can’t wait to see what the next 6 months bring and I hope it continues to be a ride.
